Reparenting Leo Moon

Dec. 9, 2020, 6:50 p.m.

Leo Moons want, sometimes desperately and other times nonchalantly, to be noticed. But Leo Moon is not like Leo Sun. The Sun is dignified in Leo and commands a room. Leo Moon is an undignified Moon—a Moon that must look to its out of sect light to see itself reflected.

Leo Moon wants to see itself reflected in the gazes of other people. Leo wants to belong—to be accepted. Leo Moons want to be seen. Leo Moons grew up being told that wanting attention was not a good thing. Leo Moons are often ashamed that they want to be seen at all by their loved ones.

Both Leo Moon and Aquarius Moon struggle with self acceptance. Leo Moon struggles against the self because it craves validation. This makes Leo Moon feel needy and Leo Moon is never needy so Leo Moon learns to hide the things they want.

You’re a Leo Moon. You’ve learned to simply become someone who other people want to validate. You show your strengths first, smile a lot, and provide the life of the party or drugs or whatever it is that people need to have fun in a certain way. You’re a Leo Moon and you know exactly how to please other people. You know exactly how to make other people see the goodness in you.

You’re a Leo Moon and you don’t always see the goodness in yourself. You’re a Leo Moon and you have a list of resentments carried over the years about all the ways in which you were forced to fit the mold of a human being rather than given the space to figure yourself out.

Again, Leo Moon is a Sun ruled Moon. The Sun is the patriarch. Often, Leo Moon wants badly to be the best version of themselves that some authority figure wanted them to be.

Leo Moons were brought up to be good children. Reparenting Leo Moon means growing into an age where it is no longer necessary nor responsible to be a good child. It is disorientating and confusing for Leo Moon to no longer be able to be a good child. It is also exhilarating for Leo Moon to no longer be a good child.

Often, Leo Moon is more interested in those stoic people who never look their way rather than the ones who show up for them everyday. For Leo Moon, it means something to provesomething to someone who wasn’t ready to see you before you did some spectacular and amazing thing.

Praise is a method of control. Both the giving and the withholding of praise is about control. Reparenting Leo Moon means no longer being interested in the ways that you were praised growing up. The ways in which you were praised growing up reflect only the survival mechanism and fears of your guardians. Reparenting Leo Moon means no longer being interested in desperately trying, with all of your power, to pry praise from those who never give it. It means saying no to those who are fundamentally uninterested in you—those who will never be interested in the version of you that you already are.

You’re a Leo Moon and you live for love. Love is not something that you are capable of earning. It’s something that you are capable of receiving when you do the hard work of finding yourself perfectly lovable.

Reparenting Leo Moon is not hard because Leo Moon is not hard to love. What reparenting Leo Moon takes is the absolute dismissal of all of the messaging around who deserved to be beloved by patriarchy and the sustaining of networks of care that build everyday freedom. You’re a Leo Moon. You’re a magnet with the gravitational pull of a black hole. You have the means to build irrevocable love as soon as you see love as something that belongs to those who choose not to withhold it.
