Jeon Jungkook'S Birth Time

April 26, 2023, 9:06 a.m.

In the past, I did a series where I looked at different birth charts for all of the BTS members. All of those charts were based on unconfirmed birth times that had been floating around that were apparently from a fan that asked the members directly at a fanmeeting.

Recently, Jungkook went on V Live and actually confirmed that his birth time is the time that is on the clock tattoo on his arm! Unfortunately, we don’t have an AM or PM for this birth time even though the clock reads 3:23. This means that his birth chart could either be this chart which is for September 1st 1997 at 3:23 AM in Busan, South Korea:

Or, this chart which is for September 1st 1997 at 3:23 PM in Busan, South Korea:

Astrologers Charm Torres, Amy Green, and Kirstin Wu did a rectification of Jungkook’s chart where they found the case for the Capricorn rising chart to be pretty compelling. I haven’t watched that live yet myself because I was visiting family but am very excited about watching it when I have an evening free.

I actually wanted to just offer up my own thoughts on the matter of Jungkook’s birth time because I feel like I have some pretty damning evidence!

Above are the western style natal charts for Jungkook for both 3:23 AM and 3:23 PM. But what about his eight character chart? If either of Jungkook’s parents or any of his grandparents are into the astrological practice of choosing a name for a child based on that child’s astrology, then they would be looking at his eight character chart or bazi.

Here is Jungkook’s bazi for September 1st 1997 at 3:23 AM in Busan, South Korea:

And here is his bazi for September 1st 1997 at 3:23 PM in Busan, South Korea:

What’s really interesting about Jungkook’s name is that it is written 田柾國. 田 is Jungkook’s family name Jeon which means field. 柾 is Jung and 國 is Kook which means nation or country. The thing is, 柾國 is actually not the most popular Hanja for Jungkook since 柾 is a type of tree and tree country doesn’t really make too much meaning as a phrase. The more popular version of Jungkook is written 正國. 正 means righteous or upright and can have a meaning of being morally correct. 正國 is a popular and patriotic name in the same way that Namjoon (meaning gentleman from the south as in South Korea) would be popular and patriotic.

So why would Jungkook’s parents decide to name him Jungkook as in 柾國 instead of Jungkook as in 正國 if 正國 has a lot more stately meaning?

Since Korean people mostly use Hangul, it’s really common to choose Hanja based on remediating something in the birth chart. This practice comes from China and is also pretty popular in China where you choose characters based on what your birth chart needs. Basically, there are five elements of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. If an astrologer finds that your chart needs more of one element then they might tell your parents to choose a name for you that has radicals signifying that element to balance out your personality and destiny. Sometimes parents will change their child’s name after they have consulted with an astrologer or someone might change how they write their own name as an adult to change their luck.

柾國 adds a wood radical to the character 正. This implies heavily that Jungkook’s parents were probably trying to remediate his natal chart by giving him wood. This also means that they saw his chart and concluded that it needed wood to attain more balance. This means that, when we guess for Jungkook’s birthtime, we should look to see which of the birth times give us a bazi chart that needs wood.

The 3:23 AM chart actually has some wood. Yin Tiger is a branch that contains wood and it’s a springtime branch. The chart that really doesn’t seem to have a lot of wood is the 3:23 PM chart. The stems are fire and earth. The branches are fire, metal, and earth. Not only does the 3:23 PM chart not have any wood but it also doesn't have water which would be the element that generates wood. The elements that are present all drain, control, or insult wood. if I were to look at the two charts, its obvious that the 3:23 PM chart is the one that screams in lack of wood. If Jungkook were born at 3:23 PM, then he would ben a Capricorn rising with Virgo Moon in his western chart.

We really don’t know too much information about idols and it can be really hard to remediate birth times based on what we do know since idols use image creation and personas to tell stories. However, I do think that there is a clue about Jungkook’s birth time right there in his name. This clue really has nothing to do with timing or life history or personality. I’m pretty much just guessing at the most common and culturally relevant reason for why there would be a random wood radical in an otherwise popular boy’s name and looking for the birth time that fits the best with that typical narrative.
