I do know about Libra Capricorn relationships. Why? Because I’ve dated four Libras and at least some of those Libras have dated Capricorns. I won’t tell you who. Obviously, I hear things more from the Libra side than the Capricorn side of things.

The first thing that I will say is that Libra is the only cardinal sign that doesn’t give other people the impression of complete tunnel vision. Aries has tunnel vision. Have you ever seen an Aries who’s excited about a destination? Cancer has tunnel vision. Have you ever seen a Cancer with an infatuation? Capricorn definitely has tunnel vision. Have you ever met a Capricorn who thinks that they have a solution?

But Libra—Libra is the zodiac sign that hinges on the edge of choice. It’s hyper aware of life as a long series of many choices. It’s not that Libras won’t make decisions. They will. But they will take their time and they will weigh all of their options.

Capricorn is a sign that loves to take care of decision making for other people. What do you think happens when Libra faces indecision and Capricorn is right there ready to give feedback?

If you imagined this scenario in your head and thought about how the Libra must love Capricorns coming in to save them from the burden of decision making and Capricorns feeling all cool and mighty because they were able to help someone do something that was really hard for them—think again. I said that Libra is the only cardinal sign that gives other people the impression of not having tunnel vision.

First of all, yes, Capricorn does give advice. Usually Capricorn gives pretty good advice, very sound advice. My Capricorn friends tell me to stop vaping and to go outside for an hour everyday. That’s sound advice. But what does Libra do with that advice?

Libra is the devil’s advocate of the zodiac. They give the appearance of being angelic only when they are trying to get out of things. Libra loves to switch it up on you. They love to tease.

If you try to give Libra any advice at all, then Libra will hear you out and let you make your speech and then they will do the opposite of what you have suggested for them. That doesn’t bother the fire signs who love to give feedback but rarely think about whether other people are listening. It will bother a Capricorn because Capricorn is the sign that loves to check back in for accountability.

Let’s say that Libra wants to go out to dinner with Capricorn. They’ll say something like, “What do you want to eat?” in a very sweet tone. Capricorn will look on a map and give a couple of suggestions. Libra might pout. “Hm, my stomach is kind of queasy. I probably shouldn’t eat anything greasy.” At that point, Capricorn might make a list of cures for nausea and decide that eating out is too much and start cooking a homemade broth.

What do you think Libra was trying to communicate in this scenario?

When a Libra tells you that they shouldn’t, that they really shouldn’t eat greasy foods, they’re not actually that interested in a bland diet. If they were, they wouldn’t have suggested eating out in the first place. No, Libra is thinking about fried tacos, about deep fried shrimps, and about roasted duck. They’re getting deliciously queasy just thinking it over. They want you to say “Oh, you really shouldn’t” so that they can say, “Unless?”

Libras also have tunnel vision just like the rest of the cardinal signs. Except, they like to think about how all of the other tunnels suck and about how very nice their tunnel is. That’s why they’re always peeking at other routes they could have taken. That’s why they like to weigh their choices, because cardinal signs like to believe that we have made the best choice.

Capricorn has this habit of trying to fix things. They make excellent teachers. They will show you how to remodel your home, how to confess to your crush, and how to repot a plant. But Capricorns will domme a space. They will come to your home and clean your kitchen. They will describe your outfit. Capricorn is the sign that is in charge of external control, in contrast to Cancer its sister sign who loves internal control.

Libra Capricorn relationships work really well when they both have a strong sense of direction. When Libra is driven, Libra invites everyone they know into participating in their goals. When Capricorn is driven, they are actually more prepared to plan time for friends and family because they have a plan that they can plan around.

Libra Capricorn relationships get more unwieldy when both are at a crossroads. Libra is cardinal air and Capricorn is cardinal earth. We expect some friction between the two because cardinal signs try to do things at the same time but air and earth don’t mix.

When Libra feels directionless, they resist taking advice. They refuse to make decisions based on feedback because they don’t want to get trapped in someone else’s narrative about their life. When Capricorn feels directionless, they start trying to help their friends out because helping other people with their problems is a nice little distraction from their own.

Do you see what I’m trying to get at? That dynamic of Capricorn offering advice and Libra playing contrarian is cute when it’s about fried foods and dinner. It’s fun when both people have their own sense of direction because dynamics with a lot of rule setting and rule breaking are usually playful. But, when it comes to more serious decisions, Capricorn’s helpfulness and Libra’s contrarianism can push both people into their own corners.

Libra starts to feel bullied. Why are you trying to tell me what to do? Don’t you have your own shit to figure out? Capricorn feels taken advantage of. I’m only trying to help. You’re taking me for granted.

But I want to stress that this dynamic of setting up expectations and breaking them is playful. Libra and Capricorn, just like any two signs that make an aspect or don’t, can get along very well with each other. Just like any two signs that share the same modality, Libra and Capricorn usually experience very similar cycles due to running into the same hard aspects. They experience oppositions, conjunctions, or squares at the same time. It’s just that, since they are of such different elements, they seek support in such different ways. They get different trines and sextiles.

Libra and Capricorn meet challenges around the same time. That’s why these relationships between signs that square one another tend to work really well when they do or hurt so bad when they don’t. Life throws the same challenges towards Libra and Capricorn. But they require different ingredients for support. You can say that they challenge each other. That’s a square.
