Taurus Gemini Relationships

July 19, 2023, 4:44 p.m.

There are a couple of really well known Taurus and Gemini couples that I’m going to hold off naming in this because their names tend to incite provocation. If you’re curious about these big Taurus Gemini couples, you can google it and you’ll see what I mean.

You would think that Taurus and Gemini have a lot of things to talk about together. They do. Taurus is Venus and Gemini is Mercury. Mercury, known for its talent, would have so much to discuss with the artist of the zodiac, would they not? Both of the rulers of these two signs tend to follow the Sun around, devoted to the light.

Taurus and Gemini are what we call averse in astrology. They’re signs that are adjacent to each other and cannot see each other. This is true of any two signs that are right next to each other unless they have other lines of sight between them (I’ll get into this later in this series).

I think that when we’re talking Sun signs, signs that are adjacent tend to do between with each other than signs that are inconjunct because people who have adjacent Suns tend to share similar placements by Mercury or Venus. The feeling can be similar to how your same age friends make you feel familiar just because they reflect some part of you back to yourself.

But taking just the signs side by side on their own? Taurus stills. Taurus wants to gleam. It wants to capture the light of the Sun. Gemini throws off brilliance, taking it for granted, and flits around glittering. It plays with shielding itself from light, ducking from it, and then taking it for itself once more. One is glitter and the other is gold. You can see how they are not the same.

Simply put, Gemini is unconcerned with looking bad. It’s a sign that expresses itself best through duality. They will speak the truth no matter how it makes them look.

Taurus is Venusian. Taurus sees nothing wrong with appearing well loved, finds dignity and comfort in it, and rests in it. Taurus is also more conservative with their energy and tends to make decisions efficiently.

Next to Gemini, Taurus might actually appear a bit stiff. This is obviously not an essential quality of Taurus. Taurus is such a lush and wet and fluid sign. It appears to be stiff when it is in antagonism with Gemini because stiffness is the judgment that a Mercurial might make about someone who needs greater consistency.

In order to provoke Taurus, Gemini might do endearing or playful things. There’s something in this dynamic that actually encourages Gemini to play up their bad boy persona up even more. That can be fun if the relationship is resilient.

I don’t mean to imply that I think that relationships between Taurus people and Gemini people or between Taurus placements and Gemini placements are going to be bad. We have all twelve signs and we figure out how to be all of them. I do think that there are difficulties in Taurus and Gemini relationships and I also know that the quality of a relationship is not measured by its peacefulness but by the willingness of those in relationship to continually repair.

Taurus and Gemini can absolutely build a resilient relationship together. Gemini gets Taurus to try new things, enforces a new routine or ritual or habit on Taurus. Taurus doesn’t want to do it and moans but then tries it, enjoying it. Taurus shows Gemini how to enjoy things at leisure.

The tension between the two signs can feel really nice. It’s sparks flying. Both signs feel a little friction and friction can be pleasurable. This isn’t a soothing dynamic. It’s one that challenges both parties.

It’s Gemini who appears to hold the reins in the dynamic but this is only an appearance. You see, Gemini conjoles the two of them into experiences. It can hold more control and there may even be moments when it’s like Taurus is playing catch up. Sometimes Taurus might be irritated by the constant motion of the Gemini but, other times, they might laugh about it together.

Sometimes, the Taurus might feel left behind. It would be wise for the Gemini to watch out for this. The wind can shake up the soil but boulders can only hold the wind for so long. Aphrodite actually becomes quite stringent when they are teased by Hermes.

But I said that Gemini’s rules in the relationship are only appearance. It’s actually Taurus who makes or breaks the dynamic. In a relationship between Taurus and Gemini, it’s Taurus that will make the big changes that can flip everything on its head and create new roles for both parties in the relationship itself.

Taurus doesn’t fuck around. It doesn’t make small decisions and flit back suggestively. It makes up its mind and goes “whomp!”

If you know someone who has both Taurus and Gemini placements then you might have noticed this quality of them. They make suggestions and get into things freely, run their mouths hilariously. But when it goes to actual decisions, they move only when they can move with certainty. They love to chat and argue and debate but there are things about them that no one except life itself could ever change.

You can think of this dynamic almost in the form of conversation produced through question and answer. Gemini asks the questions. They ask all kinds of questions. They prod and probe. They examine the world and other people. At first, it appears that the question asker has all of the power in shaping the conversation. What does Taurus have?

Taurus has the choice of answering. It turns out that this is a lot of power. A conversation is shaped not by all of the questions but by response.

So that’s the friction. The friction between Taurus and Gemini is the friction between a question asker and a person who looks for sureness through response. You can see that they share much similarity. They’re both interested in truth. Their approaches to truth seeking are different and, yet, their collisions can be joyful.

I think that’s why Taurus and Gemini are attracted to each other. This isn’t a person who seems to be so similar to themselves. This is someone who is a bit mysterious (how Gemini might view Taurus since Taurus is in the twelfth house position from Gemini) or who seems to bring in the unknown (how Taurus might see Gemini since Gemini is in the second house position from Taurus). This person is different. They work differently. How could they live life like that? How do they function? These are the questions that averse placements like Taurus and Gemini ask each other.

When you have two very different people side by side, there usually some relief around not having to be like the other one. There’s little risk that Taurus will become more like Gemini or that Gemini will become more like Taurus. If they’re compromising together, then it’s because they’ve decided to enjoy their mutual difference. In fact, Taurus and Gemini relationships can make both the Taurus and the Gemini emphasize the traits that make themselves different from the other one.

Taurus becomes more value driven and committed, more devoted. Taurus can also become more dogmatic or withholding. Gemini becomes more perceptive and talented. It can also become more frivolous and inquisitive. Like I said before, Taurus can bring out the bad boy side of Gemini more. Gemini can also make Taurus feel more constrained as it tries to be good and moral and just.

That’s the signs coming apart. They come together if they remember that they can share the same goals while respecting difference.

If you have both Taurus and Gemini placements, if you have strong placements in one of the signs and close people with strong placements in the other sign, then you’re here with something quite noble. You’re here with the opportunity to practice understanding. The practice of understanding can only happen when you go through a lot of misunderstanding. It can only happen when your understanding is not assumed.
